EDITORS’ PICKS 2024
As the year comes to a close, we at Delayed have been enjoying our annual tradition of combing through 12 months of music & memories. It’s truthfully a daunting ritual, as we’re so lucky to be presented with such an exorbitant amount of music throughout the year. There is a lot of weight behind a decision to consider something the favorite thing you’ve heard over the course of a 12 month period. You are a different person that you were on January 1, 2024, so much has happened in your life and around the world. On the other hand, music is such a powerful thing - a certain track, mix, or album can attach itself to a distinct memory or bring you back to a specific place or state of mind. Certainly everyone who shares this deep affection for the deeper sides of electronic music or any musical genre has that one thing they continue to come back to, listening over and over as a source of comfort. 2024 was a complex year, full of beauty as well as so much pain. We’re grateful to have the opportunity to be able to hear, collect and reflect on the creations of so many talented artists around the world. Thank you for your work and for your dedication to your craft - it’s what helps us to process all that goes on around us. Our hope is that Delayed can be a digital playground for your ears and for your mind - a place to unwind and escape, just for a moment. We’re excited to share our musical reflections of the year with you. Enjoy, and don’t hesitate to let us know what your favorites are as well - you can reach us anytime at info@delayed.nyc or on our various social platforms.
ARTIST OF THE MOMENT: MARY YUZOVSKAYA
Mary Yuzovskaya’s musical journey is a testament to her deep-rooted dedication and wide-ranging influences. Beginning her training as a classical pianist at the age of three, she later brought her talent to the stage, performing in several theatrical productions. These early experiences built the foundation for her precision and creative expression in music. Her DJ career started in 2006 and it was always connected to vinyl as a preferred and only medium to DJ. Fittingly she started to work at Halcyon, the iconic record shop based in Brooklyn that was known for its wide variety of sounds…
FAVORITE RELEASES
As we bid farewell to 2024, December was a fitting finale for a year rich in groundbreaking music. This month’s highlights include standout compilations from Oslated, re:st (happy 10th anniversary!), and From a Lost Space, alongside Nathan Kofi’s beautiful debut album on De Lichting. BODYXVIII offered a meditative experience with Closer, blending lush textures and drones, while R-010 navigated the fascinating “grey area” between techno and halftime, bolstered by remixes from ABSIS and Toxido Mask. Love Over Entropy teased his upcoming album with the NLC EP on SoHaSo, and Yard One and Tryst delivered the stellar San-lim Yok EP featuring talents like Vovian, Alex Albrecht, Red Pig Flower, and Eli Verveine. Daniel Avery’s sole release this year brought pure drum-and-bass brilliance, while Foreign Material expanded hypnotic techno’s horizons with Vesperal Lights on NORITE.
FAVORITE MIXES
Here we are, wrapping up 2024 with one last post to celebrate the mixes that soundtracked our December. It's become a little tradition for us to pull together a list that fits different moods and moments, and this month's picks feel extra special. If you're looking for something gentle to accompany a quiet moment, Toxido Mask, Mjulev, and SAL have you covered. Planning a road trip? Forma Oscura, F-on, and Command D offer deep, dubby vibes to keep you company. For an energizing boost—say, on your next run—Atom™ & Tobias deliver a live set that will lift your spirits. Vinna Våldyr absolutely stole the show this month with a mix that'll whisk you to the magic of Andalusia and the Simbiosis Festival. And for those ready to lose themselves in some serious grooves, Agonis and Andrea's live sets from Monument and Mutek are pure brilliance. Thank you for being part of our musical journey this year. Here’s to more discoveries and incredible sounds in 2025!
SUNDAYS ARE FOR…
This Sunday marks the last of my contributions for 2024. As the year draws to a close, there’s been a sense of reflection for the months past. Each mix has acted as a meaningful creative outlet and I’ve had so many personal feelings, moments, and more tied to them.
